As a fan of both games and movies growing up, Luke Owen has always had a fascination about video game movie adaptations. What was the process of turning a game into a movie? So he reached out and interviewed dozens of people involved in the making of video game movie adaptations for his 2015 book Lights, Camera, GAME OVER! He has now adapted that book – with new material – into CutScene.

The channel was piloted in April 2023, providing a miniseries of in-depth video essays about how video game movies get made and the bizarre stories that came from their productions. Its first series of four videos were warmly received by the audience, with a video about the Street Fighter movie amassing over 100,000 views in two weeks. In its first month the channel reached over 200,000 total views and almost 25,000 subscribers. A second series has now been launched
